iNPUT-ACE Certified Metrologist (IAMC)

Building on their knowledge from the Operator and Examiner Certifications, students will learn how to get accurate measurements from video evidence.

The iNPUT-ACE Metrologist Certification gives students the foundational knowledge needed to get accurate measurements of distance and time from video evidence. In the first module, students will go in-depth with using the Camera Match Overlay Tool for overlaying the video evidence on top of point cloud data for accurate measurements and calculations within a documented margin of error. In the second course, instructors will use the iNPUT-ACE VFR Lightboard to diagnose common errors that can come from counting frames. 

The certification track includes one 4-hour and one 5-hour course including Reverse Projection: Camera Match Overlay and Calculating Speed From Video.

Reverse Projection: Camera Match Overlay

Description

This module is designed to advance the student’s knowledge of 3D rendering and re-construction through use of the iNPUT-ACE Camera Match Overlay Tool. Students will learn to use the Overlay Tool to overlay video evidence on top of point cloud data, allowing for accurate measurements and calculations within a documented margin of error. Additionally, students will gain the ability to measure object locations through Reverse Projection and 3D laser scan geometry.

 

The content for this class is delivered in two parts: First, students must watch a 2-hour, pre-recorded video that focuses on theory. Second, students will attend a 3-hour live, hands-on session with the instructor.

Description

In this module, students learn how to calculate accurate timing from video using the iNPUT-ACE Variable Frame Rate (VFR) Lightboard. This method will help students understand how to utilize recorded video while acknowledging the challenges that can complicate these calculations, such as variable refresh rates, compression, rolling shutter, and more. The introduction to HEX will help students understand the basic building blocks of video files and how different codecs read the metadata that can create inaccuracies in older methods of calculating speed.
